What are the advantages of participating in a clan?
How does the clan performance affect those? In other words, what a weak clan has less than a strong one?

A clan can buy enhancements like more crystals or more XP for the player or for the cards.
Theses enhancements cost a lot, and the crystals received by the performance of the clan allows the members to pay less to have the same types of enhancements.
Instead of that, the members have to pay to the clan the necessary amount to activate the enhancements each week.

So if I make a clan where I am the only member, or have just a few members, it will not benefit me in any way?

You can buy the enhancements, but the cost for only one member is very high.

How can I join a clan then? Do I have to click 'Contact' in the clan window and then send a message?

The English clan section is quite dead. I do not think anybody reads it.

No, The English section is just full of mostly long time players who already have clans, so there has been no reason to post there.

No.
The only enhancements available in the clan are more XP for players, more XP for the cards and more crystals.
