I keep coming across players with cards that have an added +1 or even more to their original attack or defense while it's still actually the beginning of the game. My question is how do they do that and how do they get those permanent bonuses to their cards? Thanks.

everything is written on the card. If you get some bonus until the end of the game, this is permanent (like By the light ! ) If you get only standard bonus (like simple attack), the effect last until the end of the turn.

Thank you, but I already know that. I'm not asking about attack or defense bonuses you get during the game. I'm asking about attack or defense bonuses that some players already have even before the start of the game and even before you or they do anything. You start the game and they already have those bonuses on the card of one or more of their characters even before any characters in the game are actually selected to play. I hope you see what I mean.

that is from other cards such as many nomads who increase the other cards that they are with.

There is no way to have bonuses that are not mentioned on the cards.
Please, be more specific on the case you faced and what made you post here.

there is one way...
Some character such as wild, that brings a card on the first turn with their order bonus,
are bugged in adventure mode.
The card that should be brought with their order bonus is not played, but its effect sometimes activate at the beginning of the first turn...(even when you don't play the character)
However, I never saw this kind of bug in PVP mode...
